Absa Insurance has launched a new, digital insurance product that offers car, house, and building cover called ‘Activate by Absa’ – promising no calls, no paperwork, and a simplified online experience.

Activate by Absa is a digital, short-term insurance product which can cover your motor vehicle, your house, and your valuable possessions from the comfort of your cellphone, laptop or tablet in under five minutes.

After buying a policy online customers can download the Activate App, which gives access to all their insurance needs digitally, in a safe environment.

“Consumer behaviour is changing, and digitally enabled products and service offerings are increasingly becoming important, particularly during social distancing measures,” says Absa executive Nirven Maharaj, who led the creation of Activate.

It pays you for driving well

Absa has built Activate by Absa as a digital offering using a design approach, to significantly improve customer experience and simplify the self-service journey.

“This gives the customer the flexibility to buy a policy when it’s convenient for them, day or night and get covered immediately,” said Maharaj.

The product includes a telematics solution for motor vehicles which monitors driving behaviour and provides feedback to customers via the Activate App.

It’s real-time and it pays you for driving well or limiting the use of your vehicle.

Based on how well a customer drives they could earn up to 40% of their motor premiums back every month. Activate also provides free emergency services, stolen vehicle recovery and a panic button, to help keep customers and their assets safe.

Those seeking insurance do not need to be an existing Absa bank account holder.

Cash back rewards, driving scores, lifestyle behaviour

The easy-to-use Activate App allows customers one touch access to a host of emergency services as well as real-time storm tracking.

Other key features of the app include:

  • viewing of “Cash Back” rewards,
  • individual trip data and driving scores,
  • lifestyle behaviour, and
  • claims registration for any insured item.

“We are very proud of the product we have introduced to the market. Absa Insurance wanted to create an end-to-end digital experience for customers to help keep them and their families safer while insuring their assets. We have managed to achieve this by incorporating both online and App functionality,” says Maharaj.
